“She is gog to her little sister,” said the woan; “I had but the o children, and it was not an easy thg to support both of the; but the good God helped y work, and took one of the to hiself and provided for her.

Now I would gdly keep the other that was left to , but I suppose they are not to be separated, and y sick girl will very soon go to her sister above.”

but the sick girl still reaed where she was, quietly and patiently she y all the day long, while her other was away fro ho at her work.

Sprg ca, and one early the sun shone brightly through the little dow, and threw its rays over the floor of the roo.

Jt as the other was gog to her work, the siid, “what that little green thihat peeps at the dow? It is ovg ihe d.”

the other stepped to the dow and half ope.

“oh!” she said, “there is actually a little pea which has taken root and is puttg out its green leaves. how uld it have got to this crack? well now, here is a little garden for you to ae yourself with.”

So the bed of the sick girl was drawn o the dow, that she ight see the buddg pnt; and the other went out to her work.

“other, I believe I shall get well,” said the sick child the eveng, “the sun has shone here shtly and warly to-day, and the little pea is thrivg so well: I shall get oer, too, and go out to the war sunshe aga.”

“God grant it!” said the other, but she does not believe it would be so.

but she propped up with the little stick the green pnt which had given her child such pleasant hopes of life, so that it ight not be broken by the ds; she tied the piece of strg to the dow-sill and to the upper part of the fra, so that the pea-tendrils ight e round it when it shot up.

And it did shoot up, i ight alost be seen to grow fro day to day.

“Now really here is a fl,” said the old woan one , and now at st she began to ehe hope that her sick daughter ight really rever.

She rebered that for so ti the child had spoken ore cheerfully, and durg the st few days had raised herself bed the to look with sparklg eyes at her little garden which taed only a sgle pea-pnt.

A week after, the valid sat up for the first ti a whole hour, feelg quite happy by the open dow the war sunshe, while outside grew the little pnt, and on it a pk pea-blosso full bloo.

the little aide down aly kissed the delicate leaves.

this day was to her like a festival.

“our heavenly Father hiself has phat pea, and ade it grow and flourish, t joy to you and hope to , y blessed child,” said the happy other, and she siled at the flower, as if it had been an angel fro God.

but what beca of the other peas?

why the one who flew out to the wide world, and said, “catch if you ,” fell to a gutter on the roof of a hoe, and ended his travels the crop of a pigeon.

the o zy ones were carried quite as far, for they also were eaten by pigeons, so they were at least of so e; but the fourth, who wao reach the suo a sk and y there the dirty water for days and weeks, till he had swelled to a great size.

“I a gettiifully fat,” said the pea, “I expect I shall burst at st; no pea uld do ore that that, I thk; I a the ost rearkable of all the five which were the shell.”

And the sk fird the opion.

but the young aiden stood at the open garret dow, with sparklg eyes and the rosy hue of health on her cheeks, she folded her th hands over the pea-blosso, and thanked God for what he had been done.

“I,” said the sk, “shall stand up for y pea.”
